The SPICMACAY Heritage Club at SCMS Cochin School of Business continues to actively promote India’s rich cultural traditions and classical art forms through a range of engaging events. The club, affiliated with SPICMACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth), aims to expose students to the timeless heritage of India through music, cinema, and insightful discussions.

Cinema Classics Screening Week:

To commemorate the 155th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the SPICMACAY Heritage Club at SCMS Cochin School of Business organized a special screening of The Making of the Mahatma on October 1, 2024, in the Training Hall. Directed by Shri Shyam Benegal, the film offered deep insights into Gandhi’s early years in South Africa and the development of his principles of non-violence and civil disobedience. Around 30 students participated in the event, which concluded with a reflective film appreciation session. Students discussed the continued relevance of Gandhian values in today’s world, particularly in the areas of leadership, social justice, and ethical decision-making.

SPICMACAY Online Orientation Session:

The online orientation session held on August 31, 2024 served as an introductory platform for students and faculty to understand SPICMACAY’s mission and the value of preserving India’s classical heritage. It highlighted the process of forming and functioning of the Heritage Club and emphasized the importance of student-led cultural engagement on campus.

Carnatic Flute Concert by Shri Shashank Subramanyam: On November 9, 2024, SCMS Cochin School of Business, in association with SPICMACAY, hosted a captivating Carnatic flute concert in the Main Seminar Hall. The performance featured Grammy-nominated flautist Shri Shashank Subramanyam, a distinguished artist and recipient of the French Knighthood Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. He was accompanied by Dr. Nishant Chandran on the violin, Shri Palghat K.S. Maheshkumar on the mridangam, and Shri Tripunithura Radhakrishnan on the ghatam. The concert offered students a deeply soulful musical experience while providing a rich introduction to the beauty and depth of India’s classical music traditions.
