The first business school to be established in the private sector in the State was promoted by the SCMS Group of Educational Institutions in 1992 under the name School of Communication and Management Studies. Over the years, the Business School has grown into one of India’s leading global business schools, earning both national accreditation from NBA (India) and international accreditation from ACBSP (USA). SCMS Cochin School of Business is the first business school in India to get ISO certification for Quality Teaching System in Management. Another significant recognition was the grant of MBA equivalence by the Association of Indian Universities, Government of India, acknowledging that the two-year full-time program offered at SCMS is on par with an MBA.
Rechristened as SCMS Cochin School of Business in 2012, the institution strengthened its global footprint through IS:link, a network of premier universities worldwide, offering students international exposure and enhanced employability in a global economy. The University of Applied Sciences, Ravensburg-Weingarten, Germany, entered into a collaborative agreement with the Group for regular faculty and student exchange as well as joint research initiatives. The University of Hyogo, Japan, also signed an agreement to send its MBA students to attend academic programs at SCMS Cochin School of Business.
Leading business school ranking agencies in India, particularly prominent media groups, have consistently ranked SCMS among the top 50 business schools out of nearly 4,350 institutions across the country. From its inception, the school has retained the No. 1 position in Kerala. It has received several national and international awards for excellence in leadership development, entrepreneurship, and other areas of critical relevance to the corporate world. Among its notable honours is the prestigious OMAC Global Award for perfection and performance. Another significant achievement was the Medal of Excellence at the International Business Plan Competition conducted by North Carolina Central University, USA.
SCMS has further strengthened its global business school stature through academic tie-ups with several leading business schools worldwide, including La Trobe University, Australia; Chonnam National University, South Korea; University of Applied Economics, Switzerland; University of Manchester, UK; North Carolina Central University, USA and Northern Kentucky University, USA. These collaborations focus on developing state-of-the-art curricula, innovative teaching methodologies, and active faculty and student exchange programmes.
Today, SCMS Cochin School of Business stands as one of the most recognised and respected business schools in India.
Dr. Subramanian Swamy, as the Chairman of Board of Governors – SCMS through his vast experience as Professor at Harvard University and IIT Delhi gives directions and guidance to the Administrative team during his visits to the institution. His academic contributions to the institution through lecture series every year is treasured by both the students and faculty community.
Promoters of SCMS Group are academicians with years of experience in running professional institutions of excellence in management and technology. A long march to a glorious future was flagged off in 1976 with the establishment of the Prathap Foundation for Education and Training by Dr.G.P.C. Nayar at Kochi.
Dr. Pradeep P. Thevannoor, the late Vice Chairman of SCMS Group, was a great visionary and a source of inspiration for all of us at SCMS Group. He worked relentlessly to take SCMS to great heights in quality and excellence. A man of fertile imagination and untiring energy, he was in a hurry to accomplish his pet projects.
