About

Mr. K.J. Paulose Dean, Professor and Head of the Department of Management, has his basic degree in Mechanical Engineering from REC Calicut. He is also an alumni of the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta. He started his career in the Mukund Iron and Steel Co. Ltd. as a management trainee. Later he worked with many major companies in India and abroad during a professional career spanning about 20 years. He has undergone training in CAD/CAI in UK, USA and Switzerland. Since 1993 he is with SCMS-COCHIN.

Educational Qualification

Prof.K.J.Paulose had his distnguished education in the presigious National Institute of Technology, Calicut for his undergraduate course in Mechanical engineering 1970), and in the illustrious Indian Institute of Management, Kolkotha for his postgraduate course in Management(Majors in OR &Marketing)

Employment History

Prof.Paulose joined Mukand Iron & Steel Ltd; Mumbay 1972 and worked as Management Trainee and left as Senior Executive, Material Planning & Procurement. He joined Dalal Group of Companies, Mumbai in 1979 and engaged in Marketing of imported machine tools and electronic metrology instruments. During 1984-86 he was in the Middle East (Abu –Dhabi & Doha) handling Oilfield Equipment. In 1986 he rejoined Dalal Group of Companies as Director, Marketing and worked there for four years. During 1990-92 he served as Freelance consultant and distributor of industrial products such as Tata Bearings and Widia Cutting Tools. He has traveled widely over U.K, Europe and U.S.A during the 1970’s and 1980’s (Visiting/participating in industrial trade fairs, undergoing training in CAD/CAM/CAI and negotiating agency agreements with overseas principals). He was one of first few from the country to get trained in CAD/CAM/CAI from Digital Equipment Corporation USA.

Key Responsibilities Held

Since 1992, Prof. Paulose has been associated with the School of Communication and Management Studies (SCMS) Cochin. He was Professor and HOD, Management Studies till 2003. He was promoted Dean in 2003 and has been continuing in that position to date. As Dean, Management Studies, the major responsibilities handled include the co- ordination and supervision of: Academic activities such as curriculum design and development, Course delivery and assessment. Co- Curricular activities like Personality Development Programs, Industry-Institute interaction, Field Studies, Company Visits, Social Awareness Campaigns etc. Summer Internship of students, Students’ welfare, attendance, leave and discipline related matters,. Conduct of Seminars, Inter-B School Meets and Cultural Programs, Placement activities. In addition to carrying out the functions as Dean, has been constantly involved in teaching over the past two decades, delivering at least one course each for every batch, in every term.

Research Interests

Prof.Paulose developed curricula for the three demanding areas in managemnt: Worldclass Manufacturing,Green management, and Reverse Logistics.

Article ‘Green – in reverse’ Supply Chain Management – Published by the Institute of Public Enterprises, Hyderabadthe second ACBSP accredited school in South India.

Achievements

SCMS has kept Prof. Paulose in high esteem as the custodian of the twin hall marks of SCMS campus ambience: exceptional decorum of discipline in the campus coupled with acdemic freedom.
