CII – Young Indians (Yi) Activities at SCMS Cochin School of Business

CII – Young Indians (Yi) is a dynamic initiative under the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), committed to harnessing the energy, creativity, and leadership potential of India’s youth. It is a platform that encourages young individuals to take charge of the country’s future by becoming problem solvers, influencers, and changemakers. Over the last 19 years, Yi has grown into a thriving network of more than 3,300 members across 54 city chapters, comprising entrepreneurs, professionals, and leaders under the age of 45.

Yi’s ecosystem is structured across multiple engagement levels, including MYTRI (primary members), YUVA (college students), Thalir (school communities), and rural outreach initiatives. Its activities revolve around three foundational pillars—Youth Leadership, Nation Building, and Thought Leadership—aimed at nurturing leadership from the grassroots and making a tangible impact across communities.

At SCMS Cochin School of Business, the Yi Yuva wing has been actively involved in executing initiatives aligned with Yi’s national agenda. Two committee meetings were successfully conducted on campus—one in April and another on May 10, 2025. These meetings laid the groundwork for various vertical-led student initiatives. Among them, the E-Waste Collection drive stood out as a key sustainability activity and was executed under the leadership of the Climate Change Chair. The collected e-waste was responsibly disposed of on May 10, showcasing the students’ commitment to environmental responsibility.

The student executive committee is structured with Chairs and Co-Chairs for multiple verticals, including Accessibility, Climate Change, Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Organ Donation, Road Safety, and Yuva. This organized approach fosters leadership and accountability, enabling students to plan, implement, and monitor initiatives in their chosen domains.

Faculty coordinators provide mentorship and oversight for these initiatives. Their guidance ensures that the activities are well-aligned with both Yi’s goals and the academic values of SCMS Cochin School of Business.

Additionally, students from the institution also participated in the CII Inspiration Summit held on November 24th at Chittilappilly Square, Kochi. The event featured prominent speakers such as N S K Umesh (District Collector), mindset coach Rahul Kapoor, and Dr. Apurv Kumar Mishra (Advisor to the Prime Minister’s Economic Council). Other eminent personalities, including entrepreneurs, fitness experts, and ISRO scientists, delivered inspiring sessions. This summit reinforced the spirit of innovation and leadership among youth, culminating in certificate distribution to Yuva and Thalir participants. The day was a celebration of creativity, collaboration, and community.

The involvement of SCMS students in Yi activities and national events like the Inspiration Summit highlights the institution’s commitment to nurturing responsible, forward-thinking leaders. These initiatives not only align with Yi’s vision of youth-led nation building but also embody the SCMS mission of igniting minds to create inspirational success stories.
