SWARA, the women’s forum at SCMS Cochin School of Business, organized an impactful event on July 5, 2024, featuring the screening of the acclaimed documentary “From the Shadows,” directed by Miriam Chandy Menacherry. The event took place at 2 p.m. in the Seminar Hall and drew a large audience, including students, faculty, and community members.

“From the Shadows” is a powerful film that delves into the harrowing issue of child sex trafficking, shedding light on the grim realities faced by victims and the efforts to combat this heinous crime. The screening was followed by a compelling panel discussion, which featured distinguished guests Mr. Hormis Tharakan IPS (Retired) and the film’s director, Ms. Miriam Chandy Menacherry.

Mr. Hormis Tharakan, with his extensive experience in law enforcement and intelligence, provided deep insights into the systemic challenges and the role of law enforcement in addressing trafficking. Ms. Menacherry shared her experiences and the challenges she faced while creating the documentary, emphasizing the importance of raising awareness and supporting survivors.
